Project Charge Review
If you are just starting to develop project charges and would like an overview of how to use our templates and suggestions on how to set your project up for success, a Project Manager from our team is available to meet with you to get you started.
If you have written a project charge, regardless of whether you need PM/BA resources, and would like feedback on it, this team is available to provide a review and make suggestions.
- Create a project charge. A template is available.
- Example charges are available upon request.
- The sponsor should send the project charge to [email protected].
- The Michigan Engineering Project Management Team (M-ENG PMT) will review the charge and may ask some questions to help inform them of what is needed.
- Sponsors/Owners requesting these resources will respond to those questions.
- Once that back-and-forth is complete, the Michigan Engineering Project Management Team (M-ENG PMT) will notify you whether resources can be assigned to your project.
- If yes, you will hear who has been assigned to your project. They will reach out to you to get a meeting with you to discuss the next steps in kicking off the project.
- If resources aren’t available we can share any materials with a designated person of your choice so that they have access to the process that we follow.
- We will do our best to have an answer as to what we can provide within two weeks.
Project Management Request
Project Management Request: Project Management and Business Analyst resources are available to be assigned to strategic college projects. Requests for these resources are evaluated when requested.
Projects will be evaluated on these criteria:
- Sponsorship of request from the Dean, Associate Dean, Department Chair, or Executive Director
- Availability of resources
- Impact of the project on the College
- Cross-functional/cross-unit collaborative teams
- Project work specifically, not regular ongoing support of a job duty
To be considered, projects must have the following:
Written project charge including:
- Identified project deliverables, milestones, and anticipated dates
- Identified anticipated start and end dates (Projects typically take 3 to 18 months. Projects scoped for longer than that time should be broken up into phases.)
- Clear objectives
- Resource plan for who is participating in the project, and what additional resources will be used to complete the project. Identify the items that will need continued maintenance and if possible include those responsible for it in the resource plan
This project charge does not need to be finalized as it will be reviewed by the Michigan Engineering Project Management Team (PMT) and suggestions may be made to the charge in order to provide more information to the project manager or business analyst resources.
Mentor Support
If you have project management or business analyst resources within your group that just need mentoring and assistance, the staff are available for consultation and mentoring.
